Currently the president of Olson Engage in Chicago, Illinois, Bryan Specht has more than 15 years of marketing and public relations experience. Outside of his professional pursuits, Bryan Specht actively supports several organizations and sits on the national board of directors at Prevent Child Abuse America (PCAA).
Founded in 1972, PCAA is a national organization that is committed to preventing the abuse and neglect of America’s children and works in support of projects and initiatives that foster their positive growth and development. Since its founding, PCAA has developed several programs and campaigns aimed at preventing child abuse in all its forms. Launched in 1992, Healthy Families America (HFA) is PCAA’s nationally recognized and evidence-based program that seeks to provide support for overburdened, at-risk families. Under the HFA model, well-trained home visitors are connected with parents who have a history of trauma, domestic violence, mental health, or substance abuse issues in order to help them gain the necessary skills to develop nurturing relationships with their children. Services begin prenatally and are offered for at least three years after the child’s birth. Currently, HFA serves an estimated 75,000 families each year.

A public relations, marketing, and communications professional by trade, Bryan Specht also staunchly advocates for victims of child abuse. In support of his beliefs, he founded the Awful Grace Project and the Promised Land Society. Bryan Specht actively supports other organizations dedicated to helping victims of abuse, including Prevent Child Abuse America and the Chicago Children’s Advocacy Center.
Created by a task force that includes representatives from the Chicago Police Department, Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, Cook County Health & Hospitals System, and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, the Chicago Children’s Advocacy Center (CCAC) has been providing critical support and services to victims of child abuse for the past 12 years. The CCAC is currently in the midst of a Growing and Giving Program, which will allow for the addition of a new building that houses an expanded mental health program, community training center, and additional space to serve clients and their families. The groundbreaking for the new facility is expected to take place at the end of 2013, with completion of the building anticipated by the end of 2014. Established in 2001, the CCAC is dedicated to bringing together public and private partners in the community to help end the suffering of children who are victims of abuse. The organization strives to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all children in the city of Chicago. A vocal opponent of child abuse and neglect, Bryan Specht maintains a firm commitment to social advocacy work at both the local and national levels. A former campaign advisor for Bill Clinton, Hillary Rodham Clinton, Bill Bradley, and George Mitchell, among others, Mr. Specht leverages his extensive professional affiliations to improve the lives of those who have suffered and survived physical, sexual, emotional, or mental abuse.
Having established a firm foothold in the world of politics as a communications consultant and political leader, Mr. Specht founded the Awful Grace Project and the Promised Land Society, two separate charitable organizations he created to provide much needed support to abuse victims across the country. Today, Mr. Specht juggles a busy schedule overseeing activities at both these organizations, concurrently functioning as Chief Operating Officer and Head of Corporate Affairs at Dig Communications, a marketing consultancy firm based in Chicago, Illinois. Always seeking new approaches to educating the public about child abuse and neglect, Mr. Specht presently holds a position on the national board of directors of Prevent Child Abuse America (PCA America). Striving since 1972 to protect children across the United States from abuse and neglect of any kind, PCA America dedicates its resources to funding a wide array of programs for positive change through its 47 statewide chapters. Although these chapters operate autonomously from PCA America on numerous levels, members share the same mission, vision, and core system of values. With a primary focus of promoting child welfare, strengthening family bonds, and engaging everyday citizens in the battle against child abuse, all PCA America chapters aim to curb the cycle of violence that often begins at home or in a school environment, places where a child should feel safe. Recognizing the necessity of implementing “a continuum of services” specifically designed to foster healthy family dynamics, Bryan Specht and his colleagues on PCA America’s board of directors view early intervention as one of the keys to helping the organization achieve its goals.
